The Review of ADB's Accountability Mechanism Policy
View R-paper on the Review of ADB's Accountability Mechanism.
Overview
In May 2003, ADB established the Accountability Mechanism, replacing the Inspection Function which was in place from 1995 to 2003. The Accountability Mechanism is designed to provide access for people who are adversely affected by ADB-assisted projects to voice and seek solutions to their problems, and to report alleged noncompliance by ADB with ADB operational policies and procedures. The Accountability Mechanism also aims to enhance ADB's project quality and development effectiveness.
At the 43rd Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of ADB in Tashkent in May 2010, President Kuroda announced that ADB would undertake a joint Board-Management review of its Accountability Mechanism. A joint Board and Management Working Group has been established to undertake the review, comprising of four Board members and the Managing Director General. Two international external experts have been engaged to assist in the review (view external experts' outputs). The review included an extensive public consultation process.
