Does ADB work with NGOs?

Yes. We encourage cooperation with nongovernment organizations. We want to integrate NGO knowledge and expertise into our activities to better serve the priorities and needs of the people of Asia and the Pacific. Visit our NGO center.

Yes. We maintain close working relationships with other international organizations through project cofinancing, consultations, and regular exchanges of information about work in the region.

Is ADB a member of the United Nations?

No. ADB is an entirely independent international financial institution but we cooperate closely with the Bretton Woods institutions and other international bodies.

What distinguishes ADB from other development agencies?

Its "Asia-ness". ADB is:

• of Asia - 60% of its staff and share capital come from Asia
• in Asia - it is located in Manila, Philippines, right at the heart of the largest developing area of the world
• for Asia - all its lending and technical assistance is exclusively for regional developing countries

Its charter also calls on ADB to pay special attention to small, vulnerable economies and to encourage regional and sub-regional cooperation. These are both distinguishing features of ADB.
