President Chino Meets Protesters

ADB President Tadao Chino met representatives of 500 to 600 protesters who staged a peaceful march against ADB projects outside the Hawaii Convention Center on the opening day of ADB's 34th annual meeting today.

Mr. Chino listened as the representatives read out prepared statements. In reply, the President said: "I am pleased to receive this petition on behalf of the Asian Development Bank. I will review it carefully and respond to you as soon as possible."

Facing between 100 and 200 police and security officials, the demonstrators were vociferous but peaceful.
