Do Corporate Governance Practices Really Matter?
9 May 2001 (12:00 p.m.-1:35 p.m.)

(Organized by Standard & Poor's with the Asian Development Bank)

The last few years have seen an increasing interest by investors in the subject of corporate governance. Some studies have shown that investors are prepared to pay a premium for the shares of well-governed companies. Other studies have concluded that the shares of well-governed companies perform better than the shares of those that are less well managed. Until recently, investors had no reliable means of calibrating corporate governance standards.

Leo O'Neill, President of Standard & Poor's will address these key issues and describe a recently launched service by Standard & Poor's that helps investors and companies evaluate corporate governance practices.
