ADB's Private Sector Development Strategy
8 May 2001 (11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.)

(Organized by the Asian Development Bank)

What is ADB's strategy?

The ADB Board of Directors approved the Private Sector Development Strategy in March 2000. The Strategy spans both public and private sector operations, with three key thrusts to:

  • Develop an enabling environment
  • Create opportunities for the private sector
  • Catalyze private sector investment.

ADB will scrutinize all public sector operations to identify opportunities for private sector participation.

Discussion topics

ADB will report on

  • actions taken to implement the strategy
  • initiatives and successes
  • lessons learned.

Private sector participants will explain what drives private sector investment in emerging markets and how ADB and governments have allowed them to successfully prepare and implement projects.
