Tourism and Poverty Reduction in Asia and the Pacific

ADB's overarching goal is to reduce poverty in Asia and the Pacific and recognizes that this goal can not be achieved without long-term economic growth.
Tourism as an economic activity is significant on a global scale. According to WTO, Asia and the Pacific is the world's fastest growing tourism destination, with a prospect of becoming the second most visited region in the world by 2010. Tourism can play a significant role in reducing poverty, if based upon long-terms strategies.
Pro-poor tourism strategies should deal with the following issues:
