| Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada (APF Canada) |
| Description | Established in 1984 by an Act of the Canadian Parliament, the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada is an independent, not-for-profit think tank on Canada's relations with Asia. It undertakes research and develops and distributes information and focused analysis for business and policy makers. APF Canada is the Canadian secretariat for the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council, Pacific Basin Economic Council, APEC Business Advisory Council, and the APEC Study Centre. The foundation also runs the Canada-Asia Pacific Research Network -- a database of Canadian experts on Asia and a virtual forum for the promotion of research on Canada-Asia relations. |
| Activities | APF Canada produces a range of information and analytical products for policy makers and the business community, including a daily news service, weekly analysis of key developments in Asia, monthly commentary on issues affecting Canada-Asia relations, and an annual review of Canada-Asia relations. Current research projects at the Foundation include an evaluation of APEC's trade facilitation agenda; temporary migration of skilled workers between China and Canada; trade-related technical assistance in Southeast Asia; an independent assessment of Japan's Individual Action Plan for APEC; and the impact of globalization on social cohesion in Asia. APF Canada has partnered with many other organisations in its research and conference activities, including ADB, the World Bank, the APEC Secretariat, and a number of universities and research institutes in Canada and Asia. |
| Annual Meetings | 2002 will be the first ADB Annual Meeting in which APF Canada has participated. |
