Melanesian Wowmen's Skill Bank
DescriptionThe Melanesian Women's Skill Banks' primary purpose is to promote and sustain the positive Melanesian culture, which does not discriminate against women. The NGO's objectives include:

promoting appreciation of women as a valued partner in all aspects of development in the society of Papua New Guinea.

though a membership drive, establishing a pool of professional Melanesian women who would be available to offer their knowledge, skills and technical expertise as resource persons in the country. This pool of professional Melanesian women would be readily available to offer their expertise in all aspects of the country's development.

The Melanesian Women's Skill Bank encourages women to be more appreciative of their Melanesian identity and values and traditional way of life. At the same time, it encourages society to eliminate any practices that discriminate against women.
ActivitiesThe Melanesian Women's Skill Bank conducts education awareness programs by advocating on the issues through media and organized forums or public rallies. Individual members are engaged to participate through consultancy, which requires their professional and technical contribution and input into the particular issues, which may need their field of expertise. The Secretariat coordinates the NGO's efforts through dialogue with other institutions and individual embers concern. Projects undertaken to date include:

* National Personal Viability Program & Village Development Program in East Sepik Province.

* drafting a Women's Policy for the Women's Wing of the Pan Melanesian Political Party.

* participation in the ADB Annual Meeting in Manila in 1996
