Participation of Nongovernment Organizations (NGOs)
On-Site News
NGOs have participated in ADB Annual Meetings for over a decade, and over 100 representatives of NGOs have expressed their intention to attend the 35th Annual Meeting and related events in Shanghai, 8-12 May 2002. See profiles of accredited NGOs here.
The Annual Meeting presents an opportunity for NGOs and ADB Management, staff, and Member Country delegations to exchange information and views on ADB's operations and policies. Accredited NGO representatives who would like to meet with ADB Vice Presidents and Directors General are encouraged to arrange appointments for 8 or 9 May. Meetings with ADB Member Country Executive Directors and Governors should, in general, be scheduled for 10-12 May.
The program of consultations includes a general forum on cooperation between ADB and NGOs, and a special meeting with the President of ADB, Tadao Chino. View summaries of the NGO consultative forums at the 34th Annual Meeting (held in May, 2001, in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA). Additional consultations are expected and will be announced through a bulletin to be sent to all registered NGOs.
ADB will provide a working area and basic administrative assistance to NGOs at the Shanghai International Convention Center. A display area for NGO publications and informational materials will also be made available.
The deadline for meeting registration has already passed. If your NGO will not be attending the meeting, but would like to contribute ideas for discussion and consideration at the NGO Forum, you can send them to the Head of the NGO Center at ngocoordinator@adb.org. NGO representatives who have been accredited to attend the 35th Annual Meeting are responsible for their own travel and hotel accommodations.
