Curriculum VitaeJEFFREY SACHS has joined Columbia University as director of the Earth Institute and with appointments in three of the University's schools: The Mailman School of Public Health; School of International and Public Affairs; and Arts and Sciences Department of Economics. Previously, he was director for the Center for International Development, Galen L. Stone Professor of International Trade at Harvard University, former director of the Harvard Institute for International Development, and research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research. Professor Sachs was chair of the WHO Commission on Macroeconomics and Health, and a member of the International Financial Institutions Advisory Commission of the US Congress. Recently, United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan appointed him as his special advisor on the Millenium Development Goals. He serves as economic advisor to several governments in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union, and Latin America. A recipient of many awards and honors, he has lectured at the London School of Economics and Political Science, Oxford University, Princeton University, Tel Aviv University, University of Utah, and Yale University. He holds an MA and PhD from Harvard University. |
