Curriculum VitaeKLAUS TÖPFER is United Nations (UN) under-secretary-general and executive director of the UN Environment Programme. He is also the director-general of the UN Office in Nairobi, and executive director of the UN Centre for Human Settlements. He first joined the UN as chair of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development in 1994/95. Previously, Dr. Töpfer served as federal minister for regional planning, building, and urban development, and coordinator for the transfer of the Parliament and federal government to Berlin and compensation for the Bonn Region; federal minister for the environment, nature, conservation, and nuclear safety; and minister for environment and health of Rhineland-Palatinate. He holds a PhD from Münster University. |
