Evaluating Corporate Governance of Asian Companies in an International ContextGeorge Dallas How can an independent third party evaluate corporate governance and provide meaningful and comparable benchmarks to be used as tools by investors, companies, regulators and intermediaries? The presentation will outline the main components of assessing corporate governance at the individual company level, and explore the relationship between individual company governance and the overall support environment for governance in the company's country of domicile. It will review the key challenges of assessing corporate governance practices in an international context, and focus in particular on key issues in Asia. Reference will be made to Standard & Poor's 2001 transparency and disclosure survey on Asian corporations. |
