Invitation Criteria


There are six categories of invitees:

  • NGOs
  • Media
  • Other Invitees

  • Delegates

    Delegates include members of ADB Board of Governors or their nominated heads of delegations and other government-nominated public officials. They are categorized as Governors, Alternate Governors, Temporary Alternate Governors, and Advisers.

    Observers

    Observers include representatives of eligible countries known to be actively interested in ADB membership; international organizations and international financial institutions with which ADB has established substantial operational and business relationships; and inter-governmental institutions such as the United Nations and its subsidiary bodies, including its specialized agencies.

    Guests

    Guests include

    • representatives of accredited institutions involved predominantly in banking, monetary, industrial, economic, legal, environmental, and financial affairs relevant to ADB's activities;
    • special guests such as former ADB Presidents, Vice-Presidents, and Secretaries of the Board of Governors, and eminent persons invited on an individual basis at the discretion of The Secretary;
    • individuals from academic or other institutions undertaking research or activities on matters relevant to ADB's mandate;
    • very senior officials from major consulting firms and other corporations that have significant or potentially significant relationships with ADB; and
    • members of the Association of Former Employees of ADB (AFE-ADB).

    Accreditation of guest institutions is at the discretion of ADB. There should be established financial or operational relations between accredited institutions and ADB that are actually or potentially beneficial to ADB. Restrictions on the number of representatives from each institution may be imposed from one meeting to the next due to space constraints.

    Top

    NGOs

    Representatives of accredited voluntary nongovernment organizations (NGOs). Representation may be restricted, at the discretion of The Secretary, to one, two, or three per organization.

    Media

    Representatives of ADB accredited media organizations.

    Other Invitees

    Other invitees may include

    • diplomatic and/or consular representatives of ADB members; and
    • local government officials and distinguished local representatives of industry.

    They may be invited to the Opening Session and certain official hospitality events at the discretion of the Chairman of the Board, the President or The Secretary of ADB.
