Private Sector Participation in Infrastructure in Central Asia: National and Regional Solutions
(in cooperation with Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey [DEIK])
6 May 2005 (10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon)
With its growth rate approaching 9% per year, Central Asia has emerged as one of the most dynamic regions today. Infrastructure (air transport, energy, roads) is growing in importance given the vast distances and land-locked nature of Central Asia. The private sector can play a notable role in infrastructure development.
The seminar will discuss the following:
- The role of private sector development in infrastructure, constraints on development, and national and regional solutions
- Opportunities for private sector participation in national and regional infrastructure activities (e.g., roads, railways, airports, information technologies, and telecommunications)
- Financing of national and regional infrastructure projects from commercial banks, international capital markets, and international financial institutions (IFIs).
