Bindu Lohani
BINDU LOHANI was appointed as director general of Regional and Sustainable Development Department,
ADB, at the beginning of 2005. Since 1985, his positions at ADB have included The Secretary; deputy director
of the Infrastructure, Energy and Financial Sectors Department (West); and assistant chief of the Environmental
Division, Office of Environment and Social Development Department. From 1977 to 1985, he was division
chair of the Environmental Department at the Asian Institute of Technology. Before that he worked in the
departments of housing and physical planning, roads and local development of the Government of Nepal. He
has served as consultant to several UN agencies and international consulting firms, and has spoken at many
high-level international conferences and inter-governmental meetings. He has published over 120 articles and
authored seven books. He obtained a doctoral degree in environmental engineering, and completed several
senior executive management development programs organized by the Government of Nepal, Business School
of the University of Chicago, Cornell University and Arthur D. Little, and the Corporate Environmental Leadership
Program at Yale University.
