Chris Manning
CHRIS MANNING is senior fellow and the head of the Indonesia project at the Division of Economics in the
Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies, Australian National University (ANU). His research focuses on
labor market and industrial development issues in East Asia. Before joining ANU in 1991, he was senior lecturer,
research fellow and co-ordinator of the Population Studies Program at Flinders University, Australia.
During 1984-1985 he was research consultant at the Development Research Department at the World Bank.
Prior, he was Ford Foundation and World Bank advisor for the Agro-Economic Survey Foundation in Indonesia,
and Ford Foundation advisor to Gadjah Mada University in Indonesia, where he has twice been a visiting
research and teaching staff member. He has worked for ANU in various positions since 1971. His research
has been widely published. He holds a doctoral degree in economics from ANU, a master’s degree in economics
from Monash University, and a bachelor’s degree in oriental studies from ANU.
