Brian J. Ranson
BRIAN J. RANSON is a managing director in MKMV’s newly formed credit strategies group focused on providing
thought leadership and communicating best practices to financial institutions worldwide. Before joining
MKMV, he was an independent credit risk management consultant as well as an author and a former senior
vice president of the Bank of Montreal. During a career of over 20 years with Bank of Montreal he was head of
asset/liability management and the first head of loan portfolio management. Before his career in credit risk
management he worked in the finance and treasury operations of Bank of Montreal. He was a key participant
in the development of the International Association of Credit Portfolio Managers, which now represents many
of the largest banks in the world. He has lectured on credit risk management in North America, Europe, the Far
East, the Middle East, Asia and Australia. He is the author of many articles and a book on credit risk management
and a former columnist on credit risk matters in Global Investor Magazine. He is also an emeritus member
of NALMA (National Asset/Liability Management Association) and has strong credentials in the theory and
practice of interest rate and liquidity risk measurement and management.
