Eisuke Sakakibara
EISUKE SAKAKIBARA is a professor at Waseda University. From 1997 to 1999, he was Japan’s vice minister
of finance for international affairs. Before that, he held many government positions, including director general
of the International Finance Bureau; president of the Institute of Fiscal and Monetary Policy; director of the
Treasury Division, Financial Bureau, Ministry of Finance (MOF), and special advisor to the President, Japan
Center for International Finance. He has also served as associate professor of economics, Institute for Policy
Science, at Saitama University and visiting associate professor of economics, economics department, at Harvard
University. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Taylor’s Award from the University of Michigan
and the Bintang Mahaputra Utama from the Government of Indonesia. He holds a bachelor’s degree in
economics from Tokyo University and a doctoral degree in economics from the University of Michigan, USA.
