Amando M. Tetangco
AMANDO (SAY) M. TETANGCO, Jr has been governor of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) since 2005.
Before this, he served as BSP deputy governor in charge of banking services, economic research and treasury,
and functional areas geared toward maintaining monetary stability. He also sits on various boards, including
the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Board, National Food Authority (NFA) Council,
and Industrial Guarantee and Loan Fund Review Committee. Before joining the BSP in 1974, he worked with
SyCip Gorres Velayo & Co. (SGV & Co.). He served as alternate executive director for the Philippines at the
International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington, DC from 1992 to 1994. He has also been closely involved in
the activities of various international and regional organizations including the Executive Meeting of East Asia
and the Pacific (EMAP) Central Banks, ASEAN and ASEAN +3, South East Asia Central Banks (SEACEN),
and APEC in the promotion of regional cooperation initiatives such as the Asian Bond Fund and the ASEAN
Swap Arrangement, and the economic and financial surveillance of member countries. He took his degree in
economics at the Ateneo de Manila University, where he also took graduate courses in business administration.
He obtained his master’s degree in public policy and administration from the University of Wisconsin. He
has attended various training programs and seminars in macroeconomics, banking and finance, portfolio
management, central bank independence, leadership and governance.
