Margarito B. Teves
MARGARITO (GARY) B. TEVES was appointed finance secretary in 2005. He was president and chief executive
officer (CEO) of the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) from 2000 to 2005. Before that, he was with
the economic forecasting agency Think Tank, Inc. where he served as chairman and CEO from 1998 to 2000.
He was elected to Congress in 1987 and served three consecutive terms until 1998. While in Congress, he
became chairman of the Committee on Rural Development and the Committee on Economic Affairs. His affiliations
include chairing several LBP-affiliated corporations, People’s Credit and Finance Corporation and the
Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation. He is a council member of the National Food Authority and Food
Terminal, Inc. He is also a board member of the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) and the PhilEquity Fund.
He is past president of the Philippine Economic Society, founder of the Corporate Planning Society of the
Philippines and a trustee of the Philippine Futuristics Society. He has higher education diploma in business
studies from City of London College, UK, and a master’s degree in development economics from Williams
College, USA.
