Martin Wolf
MARTIN WOLF has been associate editor since 1990, and chief economics commentator since 1996, at the
Financial Times, London. He joined the Financial Times as chief economics leader writer in 1987. He has been
a forum fellow at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum, Davos, Switzerland, since 1999. He was
joint winner of the Wincott Foundation Senior Prize for Excellence in Financial Journalism for 1989, and again
for 1997, and won the RTZ David Watt Memorial Prize for 1994. In 1981 he joined the Trade Policy Research
Center, London, as director of studies. He joined the World Bank as a young professional in 1971, and was
promoted to senior economist in 1974. He obtained a master of philosophy in economics from Oxford University
in 1971. He is a visiting fellow of Nuffield College, Oxford University, and special professor at University of
Nottingham, United Kingdom. He was awarded the Commander of the British Empire in 2000 for his contribution
to financial journalism.
