Civil Society Organizations: Partners in Disaster Reduction and Humanitarian Response

Members of the Asian Disaster Reduction & Response Network discussed the important role that CSOs play before, during and after disasters, and the value that they bring to the effort, including a “bottom up” approach, networking, and capacity building among CSOs. Panelists provided examples from their experience, including activities undertaken following the Indian Ocean tsunami of December 2004. Issues on CSO accountability and good governance in responding to disasters were also addressed.
