Knowledge Seminars
Session 2: Transforming Asian Economies with E-Services

3 May 2006 (4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.)

This seminar will focus on the contributions that e-services can make in assisting the transformation of ADB’s developing member countries (DMCs) toward becoming knowledge-based economies.

To reduce the digital divide within DMCs, appropriate ICT policies and strategies are needed to maximize access and the flow of knowledge to a wider range of users. Recent rapid developments in ICT provide opportunities for using more cost-efficient and user-friendly ICT solutions to support e-services and reach all groups of society— including the poor, those in remote areas, and other disadvantaged groups.

Topics in this seminar will include issues associated with policies and regulatory frameworks governing e-services, mobile e-services, e-learning, e-governance, and their potential and application in various sectors of developing member countries (DMCs).
