Unlocking the Benefits of Securitization in Asia's Capital Markets

(Organized in cooperation with Standard and Poor's [S&Ps])

6 May 2006 (12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.)

Securitization has brought substantial value to credit and capital markets around the world. At times it has underpinned the development of local capital markets. Often the focus is on using securitization to lower funding costs and increase financing options for businesses and consumers, but it can be much more. Securitization techniques can also be used to support government social policy; build liquidity and stability in banking systems; contribute to market transparency and governance; and help a variety of asset owners manage and understand risk better. In Asia it can be used to help develop vibrant and robust local capital markets as well as to attract interest from offshore investors.

This seminar will investigate how the potential of securitization can be unlocked. Where will the impetus come from and what are the key drivers for success?
