Asian and Pacific Youth Forum on Sustainable Development

The Asian and Pacific Youth Forum on Sustainable Development will be hosted in Kyoto, Japan on 11-17 March 2007. Participants will include the 25 student winners of the essay competition.

The Youth Forum will be held at a public venue open to the general public, including representatives of government, media, international agencies, academia, and civil society. The Forum, and related activities (including sessions to exchange experience and knowledge, cultural events, and site visits in or near Kyoto) will cover 7 days. Essay competition winners will participate in the discussions and contribute to the formulation of The Youth Statement on Sustainable Development.

Two of the days will constitute the Youth Forum itself, which will comprise an opening session, seminars on the essay topics, and a closing session that will result in the adoption of a Youth Forum Statement on Sustainable Development. The statement will outline the participants’ overarching recommendations for achieving sustainable development in the region.

Immediately prior to the beginning of ADB’s 40th Annual Meeting, representatives of ROAD will present the Youth Forum Statement on Sustainable Development to ADB, along with the published compilation of student essays.
