Philip Bowring
PHILIP BOWRING has been writing a regular editorial page commentary on Asian and international economic
affairs for the International Herald Tribune for the past fourteen years. He also writes opinion pieces for other
publications such as the South China Morning Post and Time, and acts as an independent consultant on Asian
financial and public policy issues for corporations and research organizations, including Oxford-Analytica
and Research-Works.
He is a founder and consulting editor of www.asiasentinel.com, a new Asian news and
analysis website. He was strategy consultant to Dresdner Kleinwort Benson Securities (Asia) from 1994 to 1999
and was editor of the Far Eastern Economic Review w from 1988 to 1992.
From 1979 to 1981, he was Southeast
Asia correspondent of the Financial Times. He previously worked in Australia as a writer for Finance Week and
correspondent for various overseas publications, including Business Week and the Guardian.
Before that, he
was a freelance journalist in Africa and a writer for the Investors Chronicle in London. He has bachelor’s and
master’s degrees from Cambridge University.
