Kyoto Day: Kyoto Sense - Applying Kyoto Tradition and Innovation to the World
Organized by Kyoto Committee for the 40th Annual Meeting
5 May 2007 (1:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.)
With a history as capital city stretching for more than a thousand years (794 to 1868), Kyoto epitomizes Japanese tradition and heritage. At the same time, the city incubates world-class companies at the cutting edge of their industries and continues to develop a highly specialized and skilled labor force. The key to this phenomenon may be found in the characteristics of Kyoto industry where tradition has been successfully combined with innovation.
The purpose of this seminar is to discuss a sustainable development model for Asia which can meet the multiple tasks of preserving tradition, promoting innovation and protecting the natural environment, and to share those factors identified from Kyoto's success with the wider audience.
In the seminar, experts will introduce some of the characteristics prominent in Kyoto business, such as: cooperative networks in industry; commitment to technology, philosophy and culture of traditional industry; and the harmonious coexistence of business, heritage and natural environment. Members of the audience will be invited to discuss the topics and identify which factors can be useful for building development models in other Asian countries.
