Clean Energy and Environment: Building on Kyoto
5 May 2007 (4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.)
The seminar will encourage an open discussion on clean energy development and
achievements since the signing of the Kyoto Protocol in 1997. The debate is expected
to focus on the efforts made to mitigate the adverse effects on the climate, response
from governments, current energy outlook, the carbon market and its relevance, energy
security, energy efficiency and the need for energy conservation, the need to identify
technological options for clean energy development, financing, and more importantly,
energy access to help achieve the Millennium Development Goals.
A panel of experts will be invited to participate in this session. Panelists will present a
short issues statement, and after a debate, may respond to questions. At the end of the
session, the panelists will give their closing remarks and the moderator will wrap up the
session with a summary of the issues discussed, as well as suggested recommendations
towards the way forward.
