New Country Strategy and Program Supports Poverty Reduction

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has completed its new country strategy and program (CSP) for Bangladesh, covering 2006-2010. One of the first CSPs prepared using a results-based approach and prepared in collaboration with other development agencies, the strategy for Bangladesh is aligned with the Government's priorities.

Developed with thorough consultations with stakeholders over two years, the CSP supports the Government's national poverty reduction strategy (NPRS), which reaffirms that poverty reduction and accelerating the pace of social development are the country's most important long-term strategic goals.

ADB will play a major role in supporting policy and institutional reforms to increase sector efficiency in the energy, transport, education, urban health, and urban water supply and sanitation sectors.

ADB's Board of Directors discussed and endorsed the new CSP in October 2005.
