PRC Delegation Studies Bangladesh Microcredit Systems

A delegation from the People's Republic of China (PRC) visited Bangladesh in June 2006 to study microcredit systems under ADB’s technical assistance project for microfinance development in PRC. The delegation, comprised of People's Bank of China and the China Banking Regulatory Commission members, called on microcredit pioneer Muhammad Yunus to discuss critical microcredit operations issues. The team visited microfinance regulatory authorities and institutions including Bangladesh Bank, Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation, Grameen Bank, and Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee. The team also discussed legal and regulatory frameworks for developing sustainable commercial microfinance institutions, and visited project areas to meet microcredit borrowers with high-level government officials.
