Advance Action on ProcurementCountry/Borrower: Republic of Azerbaijan Title of Proposed Project: East-West Road Corridor Improvement Project Name and Address of Executing Agency: Road Transport Services DepartmentBrief Description of Project: The East-West Road Corridor Improvement Project (the Project) has four components: (i) reconstruction of 127 km of a two-lane paved road on the Yevlakh-Ganja and Qazakh-Georgian border sections of Azerbaijan's primary east-west road transport corridor, (ii) improvement of ten local roads totalling about 65 km in the project area, (iii) support for road sector reform through institutional strengthening, and (iv) corss-border facilitation at the border with Georgia at Red Bridge. Brief Description of Works, Goods and Consultant Services to be Procured: Advance action has been approved for the procurement of civil works. All procurement to be financed by ADB will be procured following ADB's Guidelines for Procurement. Civil works will be divided into 14 contract packages, of which ADB will finance 13 contract packages while the Islamic Development Bank and the Saudi Development Fund will jointly finance one contract package. ADB-financed civil works contracts for improving the Yevlax-Ganja and Qazax-Georgian border road sections as well as for the cross-border infrastructure at Red Bridge will be procured through international competitive bidding (ICB) procedures. Civil works contracts for local road improvement will be procured through local competitive bidding procedures acceptable to ADB. Date of Advance Action Approval: 10 May 2005 |
