Grant No. 0048, 0049 & 0050-SOL : Bridge and Road Rehabilitation

The Government of Solomon Islands, with assistance of a grant from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) and New Zealand Agency for International Development, is improving the efficiency of the national and provincial road network.

The project will rehabilitate high- priority rural roads. The work is expected to include reshaping and resurfacing of roads and the construction and repair of bridges, drains and drainage structures. The goal of the project is to improve the rural economy through greater accessibility of land transport. The purpose is to assist the Ministry of Infrastructure Development by reinstating access to the main road network.

One such project in the Solomon Islands Road Improvement (Sector) Project (SIRIP) which seeks to:

  • rehabilitate approximately 100 km of rural roads and up to 25 river crossing structures,
  • establish programs for routine maintenance, and build the capacity of the Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID).

Procurement

Procurement of goods and services will be carried out in accordance with ADB Guidelines for Procurement. All civil work contracts will be procured under international and or nationally competitive bidding procedures.

Through International Competitive Bidding- Civil Works for road rehabilitation and bridge construction in Makira Province. The work will be let as 1 package.

Through National Competitive Bidding- civil works for the routine and specific maintenance in Guadalcanal, Malaita and Temotu Provinces divided into at least 10 packages.

In addition the rehabilitation of coastal roads in East and West Guadalcanal through either an International Competitive Bid or National Competitive Bid depending on the nature and size of the civil works, divided into 2 packages.
