ADB Activities in Cambodia

ADB's assistance to Cambodia resumed in 1992. Initial assistance was focused on key infrastructure rehabilitation. Over time, the program has evolved to cover social development, economic growth, infrastructure, and policy reforms. Under the current Country Strategy and Program (CSP), ADB will take the lead in the four priority sectors:

  • agriculture
  • education
  • finance
  • transport

ADB will have a geographical focus on the Tonle Sap Basin to improve the development impact of its assistance program, and will continue to have a significant presence in the thematic areas of governance, private sector development, and gender.

As of 31 December 2006, Cambodia had received $912.24 million for 38 loans (30 projects and 8 programs), $79.05 million for 14 grant projects, and $91.38 million for 141 technical assistance projects, since joining ADB in 1966. The majority have been provided since operations resumed in 1992.
