Technical Assistance for Rural Financial Systems Workshop

Objectives:
The TA aims to achieve the following objectives through the conduct of studies and a workshop:
- contribute to building the capacity for developing a sustainable rural financial system by enabling policy makers to gain better insights into the role of rural finance, exposing them to best international practices, and enabling them to learn from rural finance experiences in the region
- provide information to improve the quality of ADB's ongoing and planned rural financial development projects, particularly for the transition economies, and contribute to the Task Force in preparing ADB's strategy for microfinance
- encourage regional cooperation through increased communication between government officials concerned with rural financial development
Scope:
The TA will involve
- a workshop and a study tour with the participation of domestic experts from rural finance-related government agencies as well as consultants
- background papers for the workshop to be prepared by the international consultants, for better understanding of rural financial systems
- country study papers on rural financial systems and prospects for their development in the respective CARs to be prepared by local participants and consultants
- draft proposals for developing rural financial systems in the CARs
- a TA final report, which will include reports mentioned above, and will be translated into Russian
- country consultations and meetings by ADB staff and international consultants with senior staff of public and private agencies concerned with rural finance
