Frequently Asked Questions about the Energy for All Partnership
What is the Energy for All Partnership?
The Energy for All Partnership is a platform for cooperation, knowledge and technical exchange. It is a place for group innovation and project development. It is a partner led initiative to improve access to energy for the poor of Asia and the Pacific.
Why is there a need for a regional partnership?
There is no country in developing Asia and the Pacific that does not have some measure of the population suffering from energy poverty. But where there is a problem, there are attempts at solving it, and there have been many local successes that have increased access to energy. However, these successes too often remain local, unable to scale up and benefit more people. The Partnership aims to replicate and scale up successful models from across the region to address a region-wide problem. In this day and age, borders and distance should not hamper the fight against poverty.
How can my organization get involved?
The Partnership is open to all individuals and organizations that are active in implementation, financing, developing and scaling up access to energy projects in Asia and the Pacific. Submit your details to our Secretariat through our registration form and we will be in touch with you shortly.
Organizations with relevant expertise and commitment that are interested in leading a working group should submit an Expression of Interest to the Secretariat.
What are the benefits for members?
The Partnership will help you strengthen and leverage your existing efforts giving your work greater impact. The problems that crop up during the scale-up of successful projects have limited even the most successful examples of development work.
The benefits will vary according to partners' orientation and interest.
Project developers will gain access to business development services, advice on project structuring, and access to both commercial and donor financing.
Investors and financial institutions will benefit from direct access to project pipeline development as well as the continuous sharing of knowledge on technologies and financing mechanisms.
Donors and development agencies can expect improved coordination and collaboration, the exchange of best practice approaches and strategies for scaling up access to energy and a platform to develop a systematic monitoring and evaluation.
Technology suppliers and entrepreneurs will gain access to customers, investors and financial institutions.
What kind of activities will the Partnership undertake?
The primary activity of the Partnership is to support the scaling up of successful existing approaches to increase access to energy. It will also encourage the implementation of promising new approaches that promote innovative financing mechanisms and include a greater level of private sector participation.
The Partnership will also work to enable communities to learn from challenges and successes through interaction with experts and practitioners. Communities will also be guided in the self management of their own local development projects by promoting training and information sharing.
What is ADB’s role in the Partnership?

ADB also sits on the Steering Committee of the Partnership, along with other development partners, to provide overall guidance and work to raise the Partnership’s profile.
