Health and Nutrition Sector Development Program in Indonesia*
In response to the financial crisis, ADB and Japan Bank for International Cooperation cofinanced a $600 million Health and Nutrition Sector Development Program in Indonesia to provide the country’s most vulnerable social groups—pregnant women and infants—with access to essential health, nutrition, and family planning services.

| Objectives |
- to protect the health and nutritional status of the poor, particularly mothers, infants and young children
- to maintain the quality of health services provided to the poor
- to ensure continued availability of family planning services for the poor

- block grants to health centers to maintain adequate levels of service and to provide for emergency referral to, and treatment in, district hospitals for high-risk pregnant women
- block grants to strengthen maternal and child health care by village midwives
- industrially prepared foods for complementary feeding of infants 6-12 months of age, primarily in urban areas, and block grants to pregnant and lactating women to maintain adequate nutrition
- for expansion of a nutrition surveillance system to assist the Government in developing timely and appropriate nutrition interventions
- training and staff development, family planning and programs for street children
