The Punjab Irrigated Agriculture Investment Program (PIAIP) is a multi-tranche financing facility that will support water resource and irrigation infrastructure rehabilitation and upgrading (R&U) and institutional reforms throughout Punjab. The PIAIP will enhance agriculture productivity through improved water distribution, sustainable irrigation system operations and maintenance, and conservation of land and surface and groundwater resources. The first tranche/project of the PIAIP is for the Lower Bari Doab Canal (LBDC) Improvement Project (LBDCIP) and the activities and modalities pursued through the LBDCIP provided the blueprint for other projects pursued under the PIAIP. The project components for the LBDCIP include
- R&U of Balloki Barrage and the LBDC and BS link canal head regulators;
- R&U of the LBDC main, branch, distributary, and minor canal network;
- groundwater monitoring, modeling and management;
- on-farm water management and agriculture; and
- institutional strengthening and operations modernization.
Brief Description of Consultant Services to be Procured:
The PIAIP and LBDCIP have the following six associated individual contract packages that will be awarded separately:- 1A, Detailed Design and Supervision of R&U of Balloki Barrage and LBDC and BS head regulators, and 1B Detailed Design and Supervision of R&U of LBDC main, branch, distributary, and minor canal network;
- Project Management Unit Support;
- Groundwater Monitoring, Modeling and Management;
- On Farm Water Management and Agricultural Support;
- Institutional Strengthening, Capacity Building and Improved Operation, Maintenance, and Management of the Canal System; and
- Preparation and Detailed Design of the Remaining Projects under the PIAIP.
