Loan No. 2156: Emergency Flood Damage Rehabilitation Project
The People's Republic of Bangladesh has received a loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) toward the cost of the Emergency Flood Damage Rehabilitation Project. The loan was approved 20 January 2005. The Project will rehabilitate and restore damaged public infrastructure in five key sectors/subsectors damaged by the 2004 floods. The Project components are :- Rural Infrastructure - support rehabilitation of flood-damaged rural infrastructure and rehabilitate existing flood and cyclone shelters and provide them with latrines.
- Roads - rehabilitate flood-damaged national, regional and district roads, bridges and culverts.
- Railways- restore flood-damaged rail infrastructure and facilities on the core rail network, including civil works to restore embankments, tracks, bridges, essential buildings, station roads, and signaling and telecommunications facilities.
- Water Resources - rehabilitate flood control, drainage, and irrigation facilities.
- Municipal Infrastructure - rehabilitate roads, drains, bridges and culverts; and foothpaths and drains in the slums in about 55 municipalities in six divisions.
- detailed assessment and verification of damage in each sector/subsectors;
- prioritization of subprojects;
- preparation of subproject appraisal reports in accordance with Government and ADB requirements and selection criteria;
- incorporation of flood resistance, rapid planning, design and implementation of the works;
- supervision and monitoring of works to ensure quality control and transparency among contractors and communities carrying out small works; and
- oversight of works in each sector/subsector and provision of detailed accounting, auditing, and reporting to the PMUs and ADB.
