Invitation for Bids

1. The People's Republic of Bangladesh has applied for a loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) toward the cost of Sustainable Power Sector Development Project (SDP). Part of the proceeds of this loan will be used for payments under the contract named above.

2. The Dhaka Electric Supply Company Ltd. (DESCO) now invites sealed bids from eligible bidders for the supply and delivery of the following:

  • Package 1, Lot A: 33kV, XLPE, 1Cx500 sq mm, copper cable with jointing kits
  • Package 1, Lot B: 11 kV, XLPE, 3Cx300 and 185 sq. mm, copper and 185 sq mm aluminium cable with jointing kits.

3. International competitive bidding will be conducted in accordance with ADB's Single-Stage: Two-Envelope bidding procedure and is open to all bidders from eligible source countries of ADB.

4. To obtain further information and inspect the bidding documents, bidders should contact:

on all working days from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm.

5. To purchase the bidding documents in English, eligible bidders should:
  • write to the address above
  • pay nonrefundable fee Tk.5,000 by demand draft or pay order in favor of Dhaka Electric Supply Co. Ltd. The document may be sent by hand to the bidder or their representative. No liability will be accepted for loss or late delivery.

6. Deliver your bid:
  • to the address above
  • on or before the deadline: 12:00 pm, 2 April 2007
  • together with a Bid Security of US$225,000 for Lot 1A or US$150,000 for Lot 1B or an equivalent amount in freely convertible currency.

Late bids will be rejected. Bids will be opened in the presence of the bidders' representatives who choose to attend at the address above at 12:30 pm on 2 April 2007.

7. DESCO will not be responsible for any costs or expenses incurred by the bidders in connection with the preparation or delivery of bids.

8. To compare the bids, ADB's domestic preference scheme will be applied in accordance with the provisions stipulated in the instructions to bidders.
