Loan No. 2167: Tsunami-Affected Areas Rebuilding
Invitation for Prequalification
Date: 26 August 2005Loan No. : 2167-SRI: Tsunami Affected Areas Rebuilding Project
Contract: Component C-Road Rehabilitation The Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka (GOSL) has received financing from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the European Commission towards the cost of the Tsunami Affected Areas Rebuilding Project and intends to apply a portion of the proceeds of this financing to eligible payments under the contracts for which this Invitation for Prequalification is issued. The Ministry of Highways is the Executing Agency and the Road Development Authority is the Implementing Agency for this project. The Cabinet Appointed Tender Board (CATB), on behalf of the Executing Agency intends to prequalify contractors for four contract packages in North-East, Uva and Southern Provinces to rehabilitate approximately 600 kms of roads and rehabilitate/ reconstruct identified bridges therein. The work includes, inter alia, survey, investigations & detailed design, increasing the width of embankments, increasing the height of embankments in flood prone areas, drainage improvements, strengthening of pavement layers, double/single bituminous surface treatment and/or asphaltic concrete work, rehabilitation and reconstruction of identified bridges and other structures, construction of new bridges. Prequalification is open to firms and voluntarily formed joint ventures from eligible member countries of ADB & European Union. GOSL-owned enterprises shall be eligible only if they can establish that they are legally and financially autonomous and operate under commercial law. The ChairmanThe CATB reserves the right to accept or reject late applications. The Executing Agency will not be responsible for any costs or expenses incurred by applicants in connection with the preparation or delivery of their applications. Applicants will be advised in due course of the results of their applications. Only firms and joint ventures prequalified under this procedure will be invited to bid for these works. It is expected that the Bid Documents will be available by January 2006.
