1. The Government of Nepal has received a loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) towards the cost of Melamchi Water Supply Project, Kathmandu Valley Sub-Project (Subproject 2). Part of the proceeds of this loan will be used for payments under the contract named above. Bidding is open to eligible bidders from eligible source countries of ADB.
2. The Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited now invites sealed bids from eligible bidders for the Construction of the Demonstration Scheme Works at Baneswor Arae of Kathmandu as described hereunder:
- Supply and laying of PVC pipe (approx 32km).
- Supply and laying of DI pipe (approx 3 km).
- Supply and installation of Bulk Meters.
- Leak detection, consumer connection, pavement reinstatement etc.
3. International Competitive Bidding (ICB) will be conducted in accordance with ADB's Single-Stage: One-Envelope Bidding Procedure and in accordance with ADB Procurement Guidelines.
4. Only eligible bidders with the following key qualifications-should participate in this bidding:
- Minimum average annual turnover of US$ 2.50 Million calculated as total certified payments received for contracts in progress or completed, within the last 3 years.
- Has successfully completed at least one project of water supply works with value of at least US$ 1.2 million or equivalent over the last 3 years.

6. To purchase the Bidding Document in English, eligible bidders should:
- visit the office of Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited at the address indicated above and pay a non-refundable fee of NRs 15,000 or US $ 200 in cash;
OR
- request for delivery by sending a written application to The Project Director at the address indicated above. The application must be supported by proof of deposit to the following bank for the amount of NRs. 22,500 for domestic delivery or US$ 350 for overseas delivery. Documents will be sent by courier. No liability will be accepted for the loss or late delivery.

7. Deliver your bid:
- to the address above;
- on or before 12:00 hrs on 16 September 2009. Late bids will not be accepted.
- together with a Bid Security of US$ 36,000 or 2.9 million Nepalese Rupees.
Bids will be opened immediately after the deadline in the presence of bidders' representatives who choose to attend.
8. The Employer will not be responsible for any costs or expenses incurred by bidders in connection with the preparation or delivery of Bids.
9. When comparing bids, ADB's Domestic Preference Scheme will be applied in accordance with the provisions stipulated in the Instructions to Bidders of the Bidding Document.
