Forestation and Aesthetic Plantation Study for Karachi

The Karachi Mega City Development Project is an Asian Development Bank (ADB) assisted project aimed at:
  1. supporting improved urban governance, planning, management and financing; and
  2. providing and stimulating investment in urban infrastructure and service provision in the city of Karachi.
The Local Support Unit (LSU) has been established with the City District Government of Karachi (CDGK) to execute services and works included under the project.

Part of the project funds is to be used for "Study on Preparation of a Comprehensive Plan on Forestation and Aesthetic Plantation in Karachi". The LSU in now seeking Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from suitable International / Local firms to carry out the following tasks of Consultancy:
  • Conduct baseline study of the existing plantation areas in CDGK through satellite imageries or otherwise, identify gaps for rehabilitation and prepare a forestation master plan in line with Karachi Strategic Master Plan-2020. Identify highways, roads, bye-passes, roundabouts, streets, farmlands, blank areas requiring forestation and aesthetic plantation through various landscape techniques;
  • Conduct study with respect to soil quality, water availability and identification of suitable plant species for different areas, streets, roundabouts etc. and suggest techniques to utilize scarce water for plantation and other uses.
  • Design a Monitoring and Evaluation system by using GIS etc. and train manpower in that system. Prepare a phased comprehensive plan for forestation and aesthetic plantation showing funding, planting stock and manpower requirements.
The team will be required to have a full-time dynamic team leader preferably with International experience and high-level technical skills assisted by high quality specialists in relevant areas and required to complete the study within five months.

The EOI should comprise:
  1. a brief capability statement including experience of similar work undertaken under comparable circumstances of not more than three A4 pages in length, and
  2. summary statements of recent project experience and
  3. golden paragraph CVs of key staff who would be available for the assignment of not more than seven A4 pages in length (total a maximum of 10 A4 pages).
No brochures or other additional information should be sent.

EOI may be sent by mail (10 copies) and e-mail to the address provided below and must be received by the LSU by 16 May 2007 by 03:00 pm Pakistan Standard Time. Please note that LSU reserves the right to withdraw from this process at any stage and will bear no liability whatsoever for any expenses incurred by participants in connection therewith.
