This RETA is expected to facilitate the adoption of long-term domestic policy reforms that are fundamental to achieving regional objectives set out in initiatives such as the South Asian Assocation for Regional Cooperation, the South Asia Free Trade Area, and ADB's own RCSP. It is also expected to contribute to the attainment of long-term national golas that related to regionalism and international cooperation, as identified in india's Vision 2020 and Pakistan's Vision 2030
- Project Outcome

An immediate outcome of this RETA would be the identification of feasible, long-term domestic policy reforms and strategic measures supportive of regional integration in South Asia. A framework for integrating these reforms and strategic measures into national development plans will also be provided, to ensure implementation and sustainability.
- Project Outputs

The RETA will start immediately with a literature review and preparation fo the "South Asia 2030" background/context issues paper, to be completed no later than 31 May 2008. Following the preparation of the literature review and issues paper, a preparatory workshop will be held at ADB to finalize the scope of and methodology for analysis. Word on the "India 2030" study is envisioned to start by mid-2008. An interim progress report on the major findings and recommendations should be available for discussions with senior Indian policy makers by December 2008, and a draft full report avaialble by early 2009. The "Pakistan 2030" study will be conducted in 2009. The studies will be disseminated through national workshops in participating countries and an international conference at ADB HQ. While the country's top political and economic leadership will be the main aduience, each country study is also expected to be of majro interest to the domestic and international business community as well as international development partners.
