The economic transition in Uzbekistan has brought about two worrisome trends in women's socio-economic status:

  • deteriorating health and education status of women due mainly to the increasing cost of social services and other socio-economic factors

How can ADB effectively support the Government and the growing women's NGO movement address these issues?

This paper forms part of a series that provides information on the status and role of women in developing member countries. It also assists ADB staff integrate gender concerns in country programming work, project design, and implementation.
