The Environment Program report gives an overview of ADB actions to promote environmental sustainability in Asia and the Pacific.

It presents ADB-supported projects and technical assistance with environmental sustainability as a theme approved since adoption of ADB's Environment Policy in November 2002, and ADB's current and future initiatives, subregional programs, partnerships, and knowledge products in support of ADB Strategy 2020's increased operational emphasis on environment.

Chapter 1 describes the development trends that drive environmental change in the region and associated problems. It also describes ADB's response guided by its Strategy 2020.

Chapter 2 presents ADB's environmental actions from 2003 to 2008, projects approved in 2008 supporting environmental sustainability (ES), and describes ADB's safeguard policy compliance framework and the recent developments in its Safeguard Policy Update.

Chapter 3 provides an account of the major environmental initiatives ADB supports and partnerships forged with its development partners, complementing and supplementing ADB's actions described in Chapter 2

Chapter 4 outlines ADB's strategies and future actions to promote environmentally sustainable growth in the region in accordance with Strategy 2020.
