Country Assistance Plans - Malaysia
IV. Subregional Economic Cooperation48. To promote a balanced regional development, the Government is encouraging industrial development in the eastern corridor of the Peninsula, as well as in Sabah and Sarawak. This will allow counterbalancing the industrial development that has mainly taken place in the western corridor of the Peninsula between Penang and Johor Baru. In this context, Malaysia has been an active participant in such subregional economic groupings as the IMT-GT and BIMP-EAGA. 49. ADB will continue to support development efforts in the IMT-GT and BIMP-EAGA. However, activities under these two umbrellas are currently dormant in view of the need to address crisis related priorities.
