F. Private Sector Development

46. A core concern of the ADB is to establish an enabling environment for private sector development, as the only means of generating sustainable growth of widespread income earning opportunities. Much of the ADB's activities are focused directly on encouraging and assisting private sector development. Thus the transport investments are designed to improve market access; the skills development, microfinance effort and, perhaps most significant, the efforts to alleviate barriers to informal sectors are all designed to foster private sector activities. A key concern is to foster public-private partnerships; in the road sector for example, ADB is assisting in reviewing the options for road sector maintenance.
