C. Strategic Areas of Engagement

83. To achieve the strategic objectives, ADB will engage the Government in five operational areas. Table 3 provides an overview of how ADB operations will contribute to a selected set of outcomes in the five areas of engagement as follows:

  • Improved Infrastructure and Infrastructure Services, including rural infrastructure, with increased public and private sector investments, and improved sector governance as indicators;
  • Deepened Financial Sector, with improved domestic resources mobilization to meet long-term financing needs as the indicator;
  • Improved Decentralization, with better local service delivery, and strengthened intergovernmental fiscal relations as indicators;
  • Accelerated MDG achievement, with better water, health and education indicators; and
  • Strengthened Environment and Natural Resources Management, with improved water and marine resources management as indicator.
In addition, the thematic concern with Governance and anticorruption will have reduced corruption as the indicator.
