Country Strategy and Program Update 2005-2006: Solomon Islands

I. Country Strategy

The strategy of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Solomon Islands directly supports the Government's National Economic Recovery, Reform, and Development Plan, 2003-2006 (NERRDP); contributes to ADB's overarching goal of poverty reduction; and is consistent with ADB's Poverty Reduction Strategy, as well as ADB's Pacific Strategy for the New Millennium.1 The goal of the strategy is rapid, pro-poor and private sector-led economic growth. ADB will support the Government in (i) providing transportation infrastructure and services, and (ii) strengthening the enabling environment for the private sector. To address these objectives, ADB will focus on capacity building and promotion of good governance. The country strategy is summarized in Appendix 1.
