Third ADB-OECD Conference on Combating Corruption in the Asia-Pacific Region

Post-Workshop Statement

Seventeen Asian and Pacific governments today endorsed a regional action plan [ PDF: 45kb | 8 pages ] to fight corruption.

The joint action came at the end of the Third Annual Conference of the ADB/OECD Anti-Corruption Initiative for Asia-Pacific, hosted by the Government of Japan and organized by the ADB and OECD. More than 150 people participated in the meeting, including representatives of governments, businesses, media, international agencies and nongovernment organizations (NGOs).

Purpose

The conference aims to

  • strengthen the exchange of experience and the cooperation between the different anti-corruption actors in the region
  • foster regional cooperation
  • increase knowledge of specific problems related to corruption and to identify effective counter-strategies
  • promote coordination of international technical assistance in the field of anti-bribery and good governance

Objectives

The conference is expected to come up with the following outputs

  • Recommendations and strategies on anti-corruption
  • Endorsement of the draft Anti-Corruption Action Plan prepared by an international expert group in consultation with regional countries
  • Conference report
  • Conference publication to be prepared jointly with OECD and the Government of Japan

Expected Outputs

  • Anti-Corruption Action Plan to be implemented by participating governments
  • Anti-Corruption Agreement among participating governments
  • Conference Report
  • Conference Publication

Target Participants

Participation is by invitation only

  • High-level senior government officials in charge of anti-corruption activities in DMCs
  • Anti-corruption experts from interested anti-corruption agencies in the Asia-Pacific region
  • NGOs and Civil society organizations; Media and Trade Unions
  • Representatives and experts from international organizations
  • Business representatives from regional ADB member countries
  • Government representatives from signatory countries to the OECD Bribery Convention

Resource Speakers

Resource speakers from various governments and agencies of ADB/OECD member countries who had successful experiences in curbing corruption and who are in the process of implementing reforms to strengthen their effectivess in the fight against corruption (names to be announced later)
